In one of my most diverse projects with National Geographic, I worked with Senior Graphics Editor Martin Gamache to develop an accurate picture of an exhibitionist’s six-month trek through Alaska and northwest Canada. Initially, I researched and assembled weather station data to be used in showing weather conditions throughout the journey on the chart at the bottom of the spread. After preparing this data for consultant analysis, I developed and updated portions of the chart design with Martin’s guidance. I also updated the features on the Alaska map as needed, and performed fact-checking with my Page Map team colleagues. To help finish the project, I adapted the chart for interactive use in an on-line version of the map. Expertise in Photoshop, Illustrator, ArcGIS, Excel, and a suite of data formats was necessary to execute the wide variety of work performed for this project.
